Kirkpatrick, .James Achilles Lt. Colonel; the titles of Hashmat .Jung, Fakhruddaula, Motaman-ul-Mulk Bahadur were conferred on him by Nawab Mir Nizam Ali Khan; h. August, 1764 joined the East India Company’s Madras Army in 1779-80; Asst. to his brother William, Resident at Hyderabad in 1795, succeeded him as Resident in 1797, negotiated the treaties of 1798, 1799, 1800, 1802, 1803, 1804 on behalf of the Governor-General with the Nii.am, brought the Nizam’s contingent of 60,000 men into the field against Tipu Sultan, 1799; died while on a visit to Calcutta in 1805. |

The first English envoy at the court of Hyderahad. appointed by the Madras Government, came to Hyderabad in 1799 and had the honour of presenting his credentials to the Nizam, Mir Nizam Au Khan. At first succeeded in his mission in gaining the ascendancy of British power over the French at the court, but could not carry out his whole mission owing to dissensions between the Madras Government and the Calcutta Council, hence forced to retire in 1782). |

(Farkhunda Bunyad) Founded by Muhammad Quli Quth Shah in 1591. It was the capital of later Qutb Shahis and after the fall of that dynasty in 1687 it became the headquarters of the Mughal Governors. It again became the capital of the Asaf Jahi rulers in the time of Nizam Au Khan Asaf .Jah II. It is the fifth largest city in India, full of archaeological remains and huge palaces and beautiful buildings. |
