Sri Venkateswara Wildlife Sanctuary

At the Sri Venkateswara Wildlife Sanctuary and national park of Tirupati you'll not only get the feel of a zoo but also unique mythological touch which makes this wildlife sanctuary very distinct from the other wildlife sanctuaries of the world. Although the wildlife sanctuary of Tirupati is not sprawling in very colossal area, but indeed is an abode to some of the rarest species of reptiles, animals and birds. The flora variety of the region is also distinctly eye catching. Covering an area of about 2212 hectors, the zoo warmly welcomes around 86000 tourists on a yearly basis.

Sri Venkateswara Wildlife Sanctuary at a glance

As you'll enter the zoo, you'll come across a unique entrance which is adorned with the figurines of various gods depicting the icons of numerous animals. Here only, you'll be welcomed with a Bhagwad Gita's saying "I am the eternal seed of living beings". As you'll heads within the sanctuary, you'll discover that there is nothing less than 168 mammals living within. The number of reptiles here are around 138 and the birds count to around 349. The major attraction of the wildlife sanctuary is the Afacaca arctoides commonly known as the Stump Tailed Macaques.

Sri Venkateswara Wildlife Sanctuary-A support to Eco-Tourism of the Region

Better known as the wildlife sanctuary having the most novel concept, the Venkateswara Wildlife Sanctuary and national park has been developed by India's Central Zoo Authority by constant efforts of nothing less than three decades. Moreover, the Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation is proud to recognize the Venkateswara Wildlife Sanctuary and national park as the zoo park supporting the development and growth of Eco Tourism of the region.

Major species which make the attraction of the Venkateswara Wildlife Sanctuary

Some of the species which you can site in a visit to the Venkateswara Wildlife Sanctuary and national park include the names like Stump tailed macaque, Rhesus macaque, Bonnet macaque, Leopard, Lion, Tiger Baboon, Jackal, Dhole, Hyena, Chinkara, Indian Fox, Chital, Sloth Bear, Elephant, Porcupine, Sambhar, Blackbuck, Muntjac, Four Horned Antelope, etc. If you wish to visit the zoo, you can easily plan a trip to it as it is at a distance of just 12 Kms from the bus station of Tirupati. If you are reaching this place directly from the railway station then too it is merely 12 Kms away. From the airport, the distance of this national park is of 31 Kms. So, if you've made you mind to visit this zoo, then make sure you don't reach the destination on Monday as this is the day when the zoo is closed. However any other day will make an ideal trip if it is somewhere between the months of June to March.

Visiting Season  :  

November to January is the best time to visit the park though it is open throughout the year.
