The forest in this region is visited by all tourists and it was in the year 1973
that it was recognized as a sanctuary. Then it became a part of the Project Tiger.
Spanning an area of around 3568 square kilometres, this is a wildlife zone that
is located around 150 km from Hyderabad and covers regions of Nalgonda, Kurnool,
Guntur and Mahaboobnagar. The pristine nature of the wildlife sanctuary is what
makes the trips to Srisailam Sanctuary so special. With the majestic Nallamala hills
surrounding the eastern and the southern parts of this paradise, the River Krishna
surrounds it on the other side.
Very popular for the rich flora and fauna there is something very unique about the
vegetation here which is mainly made up of the mixed deciduous forests filled with
bamboo thickets and scrubs. It provides shelter to the most special wild animals
that are found here. With the beautiful gorges and the rugged landscape providing
the added thrill to the settings here, the beauty of the majestic Nallamala hills
provides a perfect background for tours here. Then there is the exotic fauna here
made of the Indian Giant Squirrels, Sambhar, Black Bucks, Chousingha, wild boars,
Nilgai, Rayels, Tree shrews, Jackals, Foxes, Wolves and the sloth Bear besides of
course the panthers, mouse deer, spotted deer, tigers and the mugger crocodiles.
There are many tourists who visit the sanctuary just to see the nocturnal species
here which is the tiger.
The population of tigers here in the sanctuary has been decreasing and there have
been many measures that have taken for the preservation of the species. These species
are under threat of getting extinct.
The best time to visit this sanctuary is in the months of June to October. March
to June are the hottest months here and the region gets some rain due to the south
west monsoons.
Accommodation facilities here are convenient here and there are 3 guest houses in
the forest region. With Hyderabad as the nearest airport, and the Markarpur railway
station as the nearest railhead, the sanctuary is accessed from the nearby cities
by road too.
Visit some of the attractive regions here lying along the wildlife sanctuary and
also see the Chenna Kesava Swamy Temple and the Macherla monuments here. The Srisailam
sanctuary is well worth the visit and you would surely be enchanted by the pristine
settings of the ambience here and the Rollapadu grasslands are another sight here
which are filled with the ultimate travel delights. Embark on this journey and enjoy
the tours to this part of India.
