Hyderabad is also a centre for wildlife that attracts more tourists to the city every year with the set
up of wild life sanctuaries and animal reserves. These animal parks are surrounded by hills and lakes that acted a
s resource for survival of animals and different species of birds. The government of Andhra Pradesh has taken
necessary steps to protect birds, amphibians, reptiles and forest animals, at the same time have provided
transportation facilities to encourage tourists and localities to visit these parks.
Hyderabad wildlife sanctuaries are home for different types of animals that include chameleons,
crocodiles, Giant tortoises, Elephants, Zebras, Antelopes, American Bison, Chinkara, Black Buck, Brow Antler
Deer and many more, apart from animals one can find varieties of birds.
Few well known wildlife parks that are part of Hyderabad city are:
- Nehru Zoological Park
- Mrigavani National Park
- KBR National Park
- Deer's Park
1) Nehru Zoological Park:
“Nehru Zoological Park” is the largest zoo park located in Hyderabad and spread
over an area of 380 acres as a recreation spot in the capital city of Andhra Pradesh.
The park was established in the year1959 and was declared opened to public in 1963, the name
of this park was named after first prime minister of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru. The best part
of the zoo park is that one can find more than 1500 species at one stop.
2) Mrigavani National Park:
“Mrigavani National Park” is located near
chilkur, which is 25km away from Hyderabad city. The park is spread over an area of 700acres.
The best place to find a variety of species of animals and birds like Wild Boar, Jackals, Foxes,
Porcupines, Black naped Hare, Monitor lizards, Forest Cat, Civet Cat, Mongoose, Cheetah or Spotted deer,
Pythons, Cobra, Rat Snakes, Russell’s Viper, Monitor Lizard, Peacocks, Quails, Warblers, Babblers,
Flower Peckers, Partridges, Lapwings, Ducks, Curlews and many more.
3) KBR National Park:
“Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park” or “KBR Park”
formerly known as Chiran palace is located at jubilee hills Hyderabad, which covers an area of 1.4 sq
km approximately. The park was named after former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Kasu Brahmananda Reddy.
In the park, you can find animals like pangolin, small Indian civet, jungle cat, porcupines, reptiles and 30
varieties of butterflies etc.
4) Deer's Park:
“Deer’s national park” is located 16kms away from Hyderabad and
popularly known by name “Mahavir Harina Vanasthali” at Vanasthalipuram. The park was set up to attract
more tourists to the capital city and forest department has taken up the initiate of preserving the precious
heritage and at the same time to rehabilitate it. The best part of the year to visit the park is during the
season of monsoon were in one can find astonishing golden as well as white flowers of different varieties of
trees on the lush green carpet of grass.
