The scenic Durgam Cheruvu located in the Rangareddy district of Andhra Pradesh is
a huge freshwater lake. Spread on 83 acres the lake is located close to the city
of Hyderabad. The lake is also known as Secret Lake because of its location amidst
astonishing rock formations between the localities of
Jubilee Hills and
Madhapur. It is an ancient lake that once served as a drinking water
source to the
Golconda Fort. The overall foliage surrounding the water body and the beautiful
terrains of Jubilee Hills provide stunning background to it and attract tourists
and nature lovers during weekends and holidays.
Considering the travel and tourism potential associated with the area, the department
of State Tourism has developed it as a major picnic spot near Hyderabad. To attract
locals and tourists towards it, various beautification steps such as illumination
of area surrounding the lake, artificial waterfalls, rock garden and a floating
fountain were added. New facilities like benches and chairs, 2 km long walkway and
restaurant have been established for providing convenience to the tourists. Wide
ranging outdoor recreational activities are on offer at the lake and its surrounding
areas such as Pedal Boating, Trekking, Camping, Water Scooter Riding, Fishing, Rock
Climbing and much more.
The Art Gallery, Sculptor Park and the Amphitheater having
capacity for 1,500 people attract thousands of tourists towards Durgam Cheruvu.
