Nampally (Telugu: నాంపల్లి) is one of the biggest suburbs of Hyderabad, India. The biggest landmark is the Hyderabad Deccan Station, locally known as the Nampally railway station.
The Nampally Railway Station was built in 1907 by Osman Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VII, the last Nizam of Hyderabad. The station was called Nam-pally because it was built in a moist and wet area in those days. "Nam" in Urdu means 'Wet and moist' and "Pally" means 'Place". It is due to the wetness of the place that the Nizam also chooses to build Bagh-e-Aam (popularly known as Public Gardens) in the same area, knowing that a garden would flourish in a wet place.
Nampally is well connected by road and rail. Buses run by APSRTC provide connectivity from and to this place. Nampally Railway station is Hyderabad's main railway station providing connectivity to various parts of the state and country. MMTS train runs the local city train service from the Nampally railway station providing connectivity to important parts of the city. Autos, taxis and seven seaters all provide a means of transport to different parts of the city. Nampally Railway Station now known as Hyderabad Station.
