Kondapuris located in the
centre of Hyderabad. It is the oldest and popular commercial region
of the city. The area has derived its name from Albert Abid, a Jewish valet of Nizam
VI of Hyderabad state, who had a shop in the region, and hence
the area came to be called Abid Shop.
The significance of the region lies in its proximity to the Nampally Railway Station.
Abid is a popular shopping destination and is known as Abids Road
Jagdish market renowned for mobiles and imported electronics is also located here.
Being a major business hub, the place houses deluxe and star hotels, restaurants,
jewellery and footwear stores, cinema halls, banks, schools, hospitals, and churches
etc. Some of the known hotels located in the region are Park Hotel, Taj Mahal, Jaya
International etc. Shyam Lodging, Cafe Capri and Mischief Dining Bar are some noted
restaurants in the locality. The place also boasts of some of the oldest and finest
schools of Hyderabad such as Stanley Girls High School, Methodist School, St. George's
Grammar school, Little Flower High school and so on. There are also medical institutes
such as Surya, Care and CDR. .
