The Nizam’s Museum is an equally entertaining museum in Hyderabad. It is located
in Purana Haveli, in the heart of the city. The museum is just two kilometers from
Charminar. The second Nizam of Hyderabad acquired a palace around 1750 and made
it into a museum with a breathtaking collection of antiques.
The gifts and mementos on the silver jubilee celebrations are being displayed here.
Among this precious collection are the expensive and vintage 1930 Rolls Royce, Mark
V Jaguar and Packard. Gold-furnished throne used during the celebrations; a gold
tiffin box, with diamond inlaid it; coffee cups made of silver and studded with
diamonds are also seen. Gold and silver models of various buildings and the silver
Jubilee pavilion are also showcased.
A fascinating collection of articles presented to the fabulous VII Nizam of Hyderabad,
Mir Osman Ali Khan, is being put on public display. This was his wish as it tells
so much about his times and about the achievements of the people of Hyderabad. It
also tells us a lot about the Mir Osman Ali Khan himself.
The core of the museum is a rich collection of souvenirs, gifts, mementos and models
presented to the VII Nizam on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations in
1927 and later. He had been ruler of the State of Hyderabad for over twenty five
years of remarkable development, progress and prosperity.
The items presented to him were from public bodies and associations, Jagirdars (land
owners), labour unions, different religious communities, Government departments
and distinguished individuals from India and abroad and from his people.
