Padma Bhushan Professor Haroon Khan Sherwani was born in Aligarh on 30th March,
1891. He was educated at Aligarh, London, Oxford and Geneva. He took his honours
in History from Oxford University in 1911 and was called to the Bar two years later.
He became head of the Department of History and Political Science. Hyderabad, 1945-46,
and of Anglo-Arabic College, Delhi 1947-48. He was a member of the committee appointed
by Parliament to translate the Constitution of India into Urdu. The committee was
headed by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. Awarded Padma Bhushan in 1969; conferred Degree
of Doctor of Letters by Aligarh Muslim University, 1976; Died in [lvdcrabad 15th
September, 1980. Author of several books viz. Urdu Translation of Adolf Holm’s “History
of Ancient Greece”; A Short History of the Deccan (Urdu) 1938; Muhammad Quli Qutb
Shah - Founder of Hvderabad, 1967; History of the Quth Shahi Dynasty, 1974. |
