Faridoonji
Jamshedji, as he was known earlier, had a unique and successful career. He was first
appointed in the Revenue Department and, after a few years, transferred to the Survey
and Settlement Department at Aurangabad. Recognising his talents the Nizam’s Government
entrusted him with the survey of the adjoining districts of Bir and Parbhani. He
was later elevated to the post of Commissioner of Survey and Settlement Department.
Shortly afterwards he was selected as Private Secretary to Salar .Jung II. It is
a tribute to his tactfulness and statesmanship that despite the storms in Hyderahad
affairs he was able to keep himself aloof from party politics. With his experience
he was thus more useful to each successive minister and through him the Nizarn.
A remarkable feature of his political career was the “at homes” he hosted a his
residence periodically. The at homes’ served as occasions for officials and non—officials
to meet one another. Sir Faridoon M ulk Rahadur was thus the connecting link between
Europeans and Indians. |
