Born on 18th September, 1902 in Hyderabad. After graduating in 1924, Dr. Yousuf Hussain worked for his D. Litt. at Paris University and also studied French language and literature. He was appointed Reader in History at Osmania University, Hyderabad in 1930, and in 1945 became Professor and Head of the Department of History. In 1958, he was appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University. He was elected President of the Mediaeval Section of the Indian History Congress at its Nagpur session in 1950; and in 1954, at the invitation of the Syndicate of the Madras University, delivered a series of lectures on IndoM uslim culture which have since been published by Asia Publishing House under the title “Glimpses of Mediaeval Indian Culture.” Besides contributing about thirty research papers to the Indian Historical Records Commission, the Indian History Congress and other learned bodies and journals, Dr. Hussain wrote a number of books in Urdu, French and English.
