He was a leading medical practitioner of l-lyderabad and discoverer of
several efficacious remedies.
Dr. Mallannah was born at Mhow (Madhya Pradesh) on 23rd
October, 1872. His father, after retiring from the army, settled down at
Hyderabad.
After passing the final examination from the Hyderahad Medical School at the age of 20 Dr. Mallannah joined the Nizam’s Medical Service. The exceptional ability with which Dr. Mallannah carried on his work much impressed the then Director of the Medical Department. Col. Lawrie took him to England to demonstrate his method of choloroform administration. Later Dr. Mallannah was given a State scholarship to continue his studies in England.
In 1896 he obtained the MB. & C.M. degree of Edinburgh University and went to Koch’s Institute in Berlin to study bacteriology under Prof.
R. Koch. the discoverer of the micro-organisms of cholera and tuberculosis. Prof. Koch had a special liking for Dr. Mallannah and took a keen interest in teaching him.
On returning to Hyderahad towards the end of 1897 he was
appointed Civil Surgeon and Alagne Medical officer at Gulbarga and later
as Lecturer in Pathology at the Hyderabad Medical School.
Three years later he again went to the U.K. for higher studies and
obtained the M.D. degree of Edinburgh University and DPM of the
Cambridge University.
