AQEEL JUNG BAHADUR

Sir Aqeel Jung was the third son of Nawab Imad-ul-Mulk Bahadur who belonged to a well-known family of Sayyeds. The family came to India from Wasit in Mesopotamia in 1217. Aqeel Jung was born in 1874 at Bilgram (District Hardoi). He received his early education from his mother and joined Madrasa-i-Aliya.

In 1893 he passed his matriculation exam with distinction. Then he passed F.A. exam from Nizam College, but was unable to continue further studies due to bad health. In 1897 he joined Nizam’s Government service and was appointed as Dy. Collector at Aurangabad and subsequently served in various districts of the Nizam’s Dominion in the Revenue Department. In 1905 he was appointed as Inspector of Paigah of Sir Viqar-ul-Umara. In 1915 he was promoted as Secretary, Sarf-e-Khas.Then he was promoted as Dy.Minister Paigah. In 1919 he was made the Subedar of Guishanabad, Medak District.

After a few months he was transferred as Subedar of Gulbarga. Again promoted to the rank of Minister in-charge of Commerce & Industry and also the Paigahs.

When Sir Akhar Hydri went to London on the occasion of the coronation, Aqeel Jung acted as the Prime Minister of Hyderabad. Nawab Saheb was an outstanding administrator and a highly respected man. His two brothers were Nawab Abid Nawaz Jung and Nawab Mehdi Yar Jung.
